Hello everyone!

I can't believe that this will be our last newsletter of the year. You all have been so wonderful throughout the last three months and have been champions at virtual learning. I just want to tell you how much fun I've had doing Zoom lessons with you all and to see your faces. I hope you all know how much you mean to me and how much I care and love for you guys. This week is all about SURPRISE TIME! You all have been so awesome, we found a bunch of games and fun videos to celebrate the end of the year.

I hope you were able to keep on singing and dancing and that you will continue to do so this summer. Please know that I am ALWAYS available to you even during the summer. Please keep in touch with email or other methods of communication.

I love you all! Have a great summer!

Love,
Ms. Han

Music newsletter

Greetings everyone!

I miss you all so much. Although I see most of you online for our weekly zoom classes, it's not the same as seeing you in person. This week's music is going to be a little special. We are going to continue with our orchestra and film score lessons, but we are also going to sing and cherish the music of African Americans. As you may know, the world has been hurting a lot in the past couple of weeks. People have been wrongfully treated and people have been badly hurt. In music, we not only learn about how to make music, but we also talk about being kind, being fair, and being the best possible human beings that we can be. I wanted to take this week to sing some of the songs we already know from our wonderful MLK assembly from this year.

There are so many things going on in the world around us right now. Many people are feeling worried, sad, angry or confused. These are all important feelings. Sometimes, these emotions can leave us feeling alone. One thing I know that can always help bring people together is music.

Humans sing when they are happy. But, we also sing when we’re sad. Making music has a magical way of helping us share our feelings and find the words we need to express ourselves. It can make us feel united and strong. It has the power to lift us up and make us belong.

This is a playlist of songs that bring us together. Please go on Youtube using the video below and listen to all the songs we have collected for you! (click here for playlist)
You and your family may be expressing your feelings at home by making signs of gratitude and cheering on our essential workers helping to fight the pandemic. You may be protesting, marching or attending a vigil to show that you know Black Lives Matter. All of these actions are important tools for changing and strengthening our community.

Throughout history, music has been the glue to bind communities together when they are unraveling. Each year at Pierce, we sing to celebrate the life of Martin Luther King Jr. to remind us of our constant fight for civil rights in this country. What we sing, unites us and makes us stronger. I have shared these songs and more in a playlist below. I encourage you to bring these songs into your homes. Listen and SING as a family and lift each other up.

We love you, we stand with our families at Pierce, and we can't wait to be together to sing these songs TOGETHER again.

Love,
Ms. Han & Ms. Sheridan (Your music teachers)

Hello everyone!

I hope everyone has been getting a chance to enjoy the beautiful and HOT weather lately. I have been spending some time on my back porch just taking deep breathes when I need them. I don't know you if guys know this, but whenever I am stressed or sad, I think of you all! I think about our times of singing together, playing games together, and sharing about our days.

This week we are continuing with our Orchestra unit and there is so much for you all to listen to! I have posted videos of the Brass family and also some read-alouds! I'm hoping to see a lot of student work this week :)

I also leave you with this: All your music teachers across the whole district made this video for YOU! Please know that you've got a friend :)
Miss you all so much!

Happy WEEK 10!!!

I can't believe we've been doing virtual learning for 10 weeks now. You all have been doing so so well. We only have a couple weeks of school left, can you believe it?! We are continuing our orchestra unit for all of my K-5 students. For my middle schoolers we will be starting a final project for the end of the year.

Please go to your grade pages and watch the introduction videos the music teachers have created and also please take time to do the listening map and coloring. It's been so great seeing you all through Zoom and Google Meet but please remember that these activities on my websites are important as well!

Thanks everyone for just being awesome. I miss you guys!

Hello students and families!
Hope you all are doing well and have been enjoying some of crazy weather lately! Did any of you guys get to enjoy the snow outside for a bit? I have been stopping by more classes this week and have been getting to see a lot of you through video. It made me realized how much I missed you all!

This week I also started testing 3rd graders on their recorder karate belts. Remember 3rd graders! You can always sign up anytime for help or to try out for a karate belt! Congratulations to Vasanti(3B), Gil(3B), Sashi (3B), and Lina (3Go) for earning their karate belts this week! Vasanti was the very first to sign up so I snapped a picture of her  to celebrate!!.

Good morning Pierce fam!

I hope you are all doing well and staying busy, healthy, and happy. I miss you all and I think about you every day. I am excited to introduce you to week 3 with brand new activities. I need to apologize to my 3rd graders though because I noticed that the week 2 activities were not posted last week. I apologize for that and I have posted week 2 for this week as well so you will have two weeks worth to keep you busy!

Starting this week I'm going to be making instructional videos and post them onto your grade pages. I have been making the effort to join your zoom meetings with your homeroom teachers so hopefully I'll be dropping by to see your faces!

Please reach out with any questions and as always, I would love to see videos of what you all have been working on. I would love to add to our workshare tabs. 4th and 5th graders, I have yet to see anything yet, so please send some over :)

Always here for you!

Good morning to my students and families!

I hope you all had a great week and weekend. We are getting started with our WEEK 2! I have brand new materials for you all and am excited for you all to try.

K,1st, and 2nd graders will be making their own Maracas with different objects from your house. 3rd graders are going to continue practicing recorder and also learning a dance. 4th graders are going to continue with body percussion and 5th graders will continue with bucket drumming.

There are now "work share" tabs for each grade that I have made to share the videos that you all have been sending to me so the rest of your classes could see! Thank you for everyone who has been sending videos, and keep them coming! I will try my best to post as many as possible (with permission).

With video call classes, I am still working out times with the classroom teachers on times so we do not overlap and hoping to start next week. I will keep you updated!

Please let me know if you have ANY questions/concerns either through email, or by using the contact option on my website on the "more" tab.

Missing you all terribly!
Ms. Han

!!!update!!!

Dear 4th and 5th graders! Your activities are now up on your grade pages. I'm sorry that it took so long! I'll be making sure that I'm posting more at the same time as other grades. Enjoy, and leave me a comment and I'll make sure to read them :) Please be responsible with what you post. Everything being online, I am going to have to set stricter guidelines if you are not making 4th and 5th grader decisions. And as always, feel free to send me short videos on what you've been working on and I'll be posting them on a work share page; with you and your family's permission. Have fun!!

Good afternoon everyone!

This is Ms. Han! I hope everyone is staying well, and I hope you guys know how much I miss all of you! I will be posting weekly newsletters on this homepage so hope you guys can stay updated and we can feel a sense of community even if it's virtually. This week our Kindergarteners and 1st Graders will be singing songs we have learned so far and listening to Carnival of the Animals!

2nd graders will be singing "Funga Alafia" and also learning about some instruments from Ghana. We also will be exploring rhythm composition.

3rd graders will have new recorder music to learn and I have also attached recordings to it. I don't have a recorder with me right now, but as soon as I do, I'll record myself playing the songs so you guys can play with me!
IMPORTANT: If you left your recorder at school, here are some options that you can think about purchasing for the time being! If you run into any problems, please let me know.

I am also planning on scheduling Zoom calls for each of my classes. Our first week will be a short "check-in" and it will be completely optional if your child wants to tune in and say hi. Times for each class will be released soon, and Where to look for it would be on this website. This home page will have ALL the announcements and the most up to date information. Thank you to all the families who are teaching alongside with me and supporting your student's music class. Please reach out with any questions, concerns, or updates! (jina_han@psbma.org)
